Brad Holaway is doing something he once pledged he’d never do. However, the Scottsdale business owner is proud that he didn’t stick to that promise he made as a youth.

And today, the president and co-owner of Copperstate Restaurant Technologies is happy to carry on the family business that has roots dating back to 1920, when his grandfather started a cash register service company in Dayton, Ohio.

“I swore I would never work in the family business. But in retrospect, it was great because I got to work with my dad,” said Brad Holaway, who, in 1985, joined the company his father Roy Holaway started in 1969. “As you get older, you appreciate things like that.”

What is your favorite part of your job?
Taking hardware apart and putting back together and having it work the it’s suppose to.

What is a typical day for you?
Going to customer’s site and fixing their hardware and sometimes software problems, and/or working on equipment in the office.

Why do you like working with Copperstate Customers?
Generally they are delighted that I was able to fix the problem they were experiencing .

What are your future goals with the company?
Continue to repair hardware and become more familiar  with the new systems that we sell and install.

What is one skill you want to learn to enhance your job?

 Here’s a little more insight into the mind of one of our sales greats, Brittany Payne!

  1. What is your favorite part of your job? The variety of the work I do. I am able to work with every internal department at Copperstate and assist each customer from their first day throughout a long, beneficial relationship.
  2. What is a typical day for you? There is never an opportunity to begin a task and finish it without interruption. My day is controlled chaos, and multi-tasking is a must. When a sale comes in, it needs to be entered, distributed, purchased, received, racked, invoiced and SO MUCH MORE!
  3. Why do you like working with Copperstate Customers? They chose us to make their vision a reality, so there is a great deal of pressure on us to deliver. I’m competitive, so a win for them is a win for me.
  4. What are your future goals with the company or in your future? To take on roles I enjoy because that’s when you do your best, resulting in internal and customer benefit.
  5. What is one skill you want to learn to enhance your contributions to the job? I have to remember not to take things personally, and I could improve on that. It’s not a perfect world and it’s our responsibility to offer solutions to customers that might have been burnt in the past.

Employee Profile: Ariel Cortez Parra

Ariel Cortez-Parra (2)This is the first in our employee profile series. Meet Ariel Cortez Parra, Director of First Impressions for Copperstate!

What is your favorite part of your job?

I enjoy doing collections. I find it rewarding to receive collection checks in the mail, because I perceive it as gratification on my end. I also enjoy helping customers on their needs. I am always one to handle and issue with a sense of urgency.

What is a typical day for you? 

A typical day, is following up with status of payments from my collection list, along with accounts receivable, invoicing service orders and renewal of service agreements.

Why do you like working with Copperstate Customers?

I like working with the customers because, I enjoy helping others in need and/or currently experiencing issues. In when I’ve helped them, I feel I have accomplished an important aspect of my job. That aspect is a successful customer service level standpoint.

What are your future goals with the company or in your future?

My future goal is to learn and take in as much as I can. I also hope to grow within this company and become a great asset in other departments, if needed. Also, to improve and add to my current skills gained throughout my years in the workforce.

What is one skill you want to learn to enhance your contributions to the job?

I want to learn and understand our current products, because I would be able to assist not only our current customers, but our potential customers as well.

From the Field: Happy Copperstate Customers Abound!

We love sharing the good news–especially when it’s a customer who is raving about Copperstate! Here’s a quick Q & A we did with very satisfied client Paul Hills, GM of the Holiday Inn and Suites Scottsdale Airpark North. Thanks Paul!


Has Copperstate ever done anything that was above and beyond for you?  If so, can you share a few words on what it was?
Yes, we communicated the urgency for a Micros POS at our property with and interface to our Opera PMS.  Copperstate was able to work within the expedited time table we needed to open our restaurant. 


How much do you rely on Copperstate for the success of your business?
This was the first Micros install for all managers involved on this property.  It was overwhelming to begin, but Copperstate was able to offer suggestions and recommendations in areas where we had little experience.  In many cases, these suggestions and recommendations are the very reason for our current success.


Are you glad that Copperstate is your POS provider?  Why or why not?
We are excited with our Copperstate partnership because of the support we have received with regards to installation, interface integration, and technical support for day to day questions that arise during operations.
